Not all Microsoft Windows Operating System has MSCONFIG bundled with it. MSCONFIG is not available in Windows 2000 and Windows NT because Microsoft removed it during this operating systems' release. Most PC owners believe that MSCONFIG is an essential utility to have in a computer, and it is already a proven fact.
If you have the genuine version of the Windows 2000 or Windows NT operating system, you may download the MSCONFIG utility from Microsoft's website as it is readily available there. If you have access to a computer that is using Windows XP as operating system, you can copy the MSCONFIG.exe from there and paste it in your system32 folder. You may also download third-party utilities that have the same functionality as the MSCONFIG utility of Microsoft. Another way to have MSCONFIG is to copy it from Windows XP, or any other operating system that has it, into a floppy disk. MSCONFIG does not have to be in a folder for it to be able to run; you can start it through a floppy disk or on your desktop. When it is in a folder, it only gives you the option to run it using your start menu.
MSCONFIG is essential because it helps you optimize your PC's poor performance. When you start your PC, it loads the programs that are in your startup list. You have to wait for all the programs to finish loading before you can use your computer. MSCONFIG allows you to disable these programs so that they will not load again the next time you open your computer. This will also lessen the usage of your resources and make your computer run faster and more efficient. MSCONFIG should be used wisely as well, especially if there are programs that you are not familiar with. If a program is from or is related to Microsoft Corporation Services, you should not disable it as it may be essential to your system. There are programs that you cannot disable because if you do so, it may affect your system. So always be careful when using the MSCONFIG utility. If you think you disabled a program by mistake, you can go to the General tab and click on Normal Startup to bring back everything into its original settings.
You should also be careful when you are downloading MSCONFIG from other sites or when simply downloading third-party utilities that have the same functions as the MSCONFIG. Some download sites are not safe enough to be used as a download resource. You can acquire viruses from these sites just by downloading programs from them. So to avoid messing up your computer, download strong antivirus software or avoid downloading programs from sites that you are not familiar with. The safest way to have an MSCONFIG is to simply copy it from another PC that has the utility. That way you know if it is safe and is virus free. This is to keep your computer from viruses and for you not to have bigger problems in the future.
